INDIA, Post-Gupta (Pratiharas). Uncertain ruler. Gadhaiya (Silver, 21 mm, 3.93 g, 5 h), type 1, circa 8th century. Bust of King to right, draped and bearded, wearing elaborate crown; to right, 'MA' in Brahmi. Rev. Stylized fire altar flanked by two attendants. Maheshwari, Imitations in Continuity, 1304-1311. Nicely toned. Some areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.

This type was issued by the Gurjara Pratiharas and imitates the Hunnic coinage of Vasudeva of Zabul. It is the earliest issue for this dynasty to carry a Brahmi legend ('MA').
